This is for those of you who sometimes ask “Does gratitude really work?” And for those who are curious about the real benefits of a regular gratitude practice.
In this video you’ll learn:
- How gratitude affects your brain, changes how you think and increases happiness (even resilience to stress).
- How gratitude can help even during hard times.
- Exactly how to practice gratitude in 5 short, simple steps.
And for more about why I started this practice and some real-life benefits of practicing gratitude, please keep reading below.
I’m sharing this with you today because I’ve been thinking a lot about what helped keep me sane the year I fought breast cancer. I previously shared the 3 most important life lessons about how to be happier (as taught to me courtesy of having had breast cancer).
And so I wanted to share some additional advice about something that you can use to help you live a happier life (that will also help you get through tough times).
But first, let me set the stage for you. . .
My cancer was fast-growing and looked as bad as it possibly could have under a microscope (apparently that matters for prognosis). My doctors feared that it had spread, which would have been a death sentence.
The first week after diagnosis I practically lived at the hospital for tests, doctor appointments, procedures, and yet more tests. And then treatment started (which was hard on my body).I was terrified that I’d die and leave my boys (who were 2 and 6) behind.
There was a moment several weeks into all of this when I started sobbing and ended up screaming at the top of my lungs (luckily, I was the only one home at the time).
I remember thinking. . . Heather, you’re losing it!
Not long after, a friend gave me a book about gratitude. You’d think that this glass is half-full girl would have been big on gratitude. But up until that point I was a skeptic.
Because I was desperate (and had nothing to lose), I decided to give it a try.
I quickly went from thinking “Does gratitude really work” to being a true believer in it’s power.
Gratitude saved my sanity. And I’m not overstating things.
If you’ve ever wanted to give gratitude a try I’m here to tell you to do it. And if you’re a gratitude skeptic, I ask you not to knock it until you’ve given it an honest try.
It’s one of the easiest and simplest things you can do that will absolutely make a difference in your life.
So, be sure to watch the video and then tell me (in the comments below) one thing that you’re grateful for today.
