Heather Moulder
Business & Leadership Coach for Lawyers
Former BigLaw partner. Builder of a $2.5MM+ practice.
I help experienced lawyers build profitable, sustainable practices — and lead their careers with clarity, confidence, and control.
After more than 18 years in private practice, including making partner and building my own book of business, I know what it takes to succeed in law over the long term without sacrificing yourself in the process.
Today, I work with senior counsel, partners, and firm leaders who want their practice to support a full life — not compete with it.
Start with Success Without Sacrifice

Don’t shrink your ambition to make success survivable. Build success that’s designed to last.
My Background as a Practicing Lawyer
18+ years in private practice. Former Biglaw Partner. Grew my Own multi-million dollar book. Wife + Mom x2.
Over the course of my career, I:
- Built a $1MM+ book of business (in less than 2 years) that later grew into a multi-million-dollar practice.
- Developed long-term client relationships aligned with my strengths and interests.
- Led teams and advised sophisticated clients across complex matters.
And I did it all while navigating young children, extended bed rest (twice), and breast cancer.
These experiences shape how I work with lawyers today.
I understand how business is actually developed, how decisions are made inside law firms, and what it takes to build a practice that performs over time — not just in a strong year or two — while fitting within a real life.
What Building a Practice Actually Taught Me
Achievement alone doesn't create clarity, control, or confidence
As your practice grows, the work changes. Expectations multiply. Decisions carry more weight. The margin for error narrows. And the skills that helped you succeed early on — saying yes, working harder, proving yourself — don’t scale.
What I saw, both in my own career and in the lawyers around me, is this:
- Business development doesn’t get easier as you become more senior — it gets more strategic.
- Leadership is rarely taught, yet you’re expected to figure it out in real time.
- Being “busy” becomes a liability, crowding out judgment, focus, and long-term thinking.
- Without intention, even a successful practice can start running you.
The lawyers who build sustainable, profitable practices over time aren’t the ones who work the most or sacrifice the most. They’re the ones who learn how to make deliberate business decisions (earlier) and build practices to fit how they want to work and live.
That understanding now shapes how I advise lawyers at pivotal points in their careers.
How I Work With Lawyers
As lawyers, we are taught to solve problems by working harder, staying available, and pushing through uncertainty.
That approach works — until it doesn’t.
The lawyers who build sustainable, profitable practices over time do so differently.
My work is grounded in three core principles that address what actually drives success at senior levels:
01
Cultivate a Success Mindset
Growing and running a successful business is grounded in how you think and decide. I help lawyers strengthen judgment, emotional intelligence, and self-trust so they can make aligned decisions & lead with authority in complex environments.
02
Authentic Business Development
More activity doesn’t equal better business development. I help lawyers build relationship-first, values-aligned practices — focusing on the right clients, the right conversations, and marketing strategies that generate real ROI without constant hustle.
03
Whole Life Leadership
Leadership isn’t separate from the rest of your life — and neither is performance. I work with lawyers to design careers that support sustained focus, better decision-making, and clear boundaries, so they can lead effectively without burning themselves out in the process.
This isn't theory or motivational advice.
It’s strategic, practical guidance shaped by years of building a practice, leading teams, and advising lawyers at pivotal moments in their careers.

What Lawyers Say About Working With Me
Wondering what working together actually looks like in practice? The experiences below offer a clearer picture.
I was looking for an experienced strategist who could help me create structure around my business goals while also sharpening how I lead and make decisions. Heather checked every box. I feel more confident taking the right risks and growing my practice intentionally.
Heather understands that business development is not one-size-fits-all. She helped me focus on strategies that fit my strengths and personality — and the results followed. I increased originations by nearly 30% in one year and am far more confident about asking for business.
Heather will push you — but in a way that doesn’t feel heavy-handed. She gets to know you as both a lawyer and a person and tailors her advice to your strengths. I leave our work more confident and clearer about how I want to lead and grow.
Heather built a successful practice herself, and it shows. She works on mindset and the practical at the same time — from how you think about growth to exactly how to handle real client and business development situations.
Heather challenges your thinking in a way that’s honest and constructive. I learned that there’s no quick fix — real progress comes from intentional trade-offs and clear priorities. Thanks to our work, I’m moving in a direction that actually fits my life and practice.
